Massimo Vitali

Massimo Vitali was born in Como, Italy, in 1944 and is currently based in Lucca, Italy and in Berlin, Germany. Vitali moved to London after high school, where he studied Photography at the London College of Printing. He worked as a photojournalist in the early 1960s, collaborating with magazines and agencies in Italy and Europe. In the 1980s he began working as a cinematographer for television and cinema. In the 1990s he returned to photography and began creating sociopolitical images that received wide acclaim. His series of Italian beach panoramas illustrates the way private people socialize and entertain themselves in a very public way.

Vitalis work is represented in the world#x2019s major museums, including Centre Pompidou, Paris Centro per l`Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato Fondation Cartier pour l`art contemporain, Paris Fonds national d`art contemporain, Paris Musée d`Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver and Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
